I used to use a FURminator for my Corgi. I don’t know, but I think Corgis probably shed just as much or more than German Shepherds. We got so tired of the clouds of hair everywhere, but when I started brushing her every day with this tool it really cut down on the shedding. I know it works too on labs, as my son has a couple of them and it really helps with their undercoat. Thanks for a great review.
Hi Carol, thanks for stopping by! You are absolutely right, the FURminator works great on a lab as well. It’s funny how when we have short haired dogs we think that they wouldn’t shed that much, but sometimes they shed more than long haired breeds!
Hello,
I have a dog but not a German Shepherd after I read your article and have seen one of your video while using the FURminator for long hair pet. I think I’m going to get one. My dog is a mixed breed of Shih tzu and poodle with long hair. That tool would certainly help to lessen the loose hair around him. Thanks for a nice article.
Hi Cris. I am happy that you are thinking about getting a FURmintor! You will notice a HUGE difference it the amount of fur your dog sheds. It really is a remarkable brush 🙂
Wow, and I thought my pets were the only ones. It’s great that there are ready made devices out there but are there any changes you could make to their diet that could either decrease the shedding or mistakenly end up increasing it? I like everything with my pets to be as natural as possible and would love to know how to keep it that and effectively reduce the amount of hair that is shed at one time
HI Ryan. It’s not likely that a change in diet will have much of an effect on shedding, animals shed seasonally. If you are trying to reduce your pets’ shedding the FURminator is an ideal choice. You might also want to consider FURminator deShedding Shampoo. Not only can it help to reduce shedding, it is made with natural extracts. (Enriched with Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids, Calendula Extract, and Papaya Leaf Extract)
Hi, I own 2 dogs (not German Shepherd though). I own a whippet and a lab staffy cross. They don’t have hair like a German Shepherd does, but they do shed quite a bit. The whippet only needs a brush, but the cross needs a bit more than a brush. I had never heard of a furminator before. Is it meant only for German Shepherds? Can dogs with little less hair use it?
Hi Santosh. The FURminator can be used for pretty much all animals! Not only do they make FURminators for dogs and cats, but they also make ones for grooming horses, and one for grooming small animals such as rabbits or ferrets. The FURminator is a great choice for all of your furry friends 🙂
Hi,
I don’t have a German Shepherd; however, I have 3 cats. I read your article on the FURminator for cats. It looks like it is a product that would work well; however, one of my cats does not like to be brushed. On the Amazon page for the brush, I also saw a product called The Original Best Deshedding and Bathing Gloves. Have you had any experience with these? How well do they work? Thanks for your help.
Kathy
Hi Kathy. I don’t have experience with the glove that you mention, however, you just might find that you cat will learn to love the FURminator! One of my cats is super squirmy and would not stay still for brushing, but after I started using the FURminator, he now loves to be brushed – go figure!
